About scrap silver
Sterling silver (925) is the most common purity in UK silverware and jewellery. Look for the 925 hallmark, a lion passant stamp, or the word "Sterling."
Silver is worth less per gram than gold — roughly £1/gram vs £80/gram for gold. You need larger quantities for meaningful value. A silver teapot (300-500g) could be worth £250-400 at melt.
Common scrap silver items: cutlery, tea sets, candlesticks, photo frames, jewellery, coins (pre-1947 UK coins are 50% silver, pre-1920 are 92.5%).
Silver plate is NOT solid silver. Items marked EPNS, A1, or "silver plated" have no scrap value. Only hallmarked items count.
